Abu Talhah and Umm Talhah rahimahumAllaah 05/11/2011
Re: Abu and Umm Talhah who died in ihram on Tuesday 5th Dhul Hijjah 1432 (1st November 2011) in a coach fire whilst on their way to making Hajj - rahimahumAllaah BismillaahirRahmaanirRaheem إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ Truly! To Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return. [Soorat-ul-Baqarah 2:156] Anyone who has been taking benefit from this website will realise the enormous debt that we all owe to Abu Talhah Dawud ibn Ronald Burbank, and to his wife Umm Talhah Khalida Dost who was his support in all his works. We have really been struggling to find words which would do justice to these two noble people in terms of their knowledge, truthfulness and their straightforward good character. Allaah has truly raised their mention and their station. Perhaps the following will illustrate the nobility that Allaah, the Most High, gave them in life and in death. They both met their death in a coach that caught fire on its way to Makkah. Despite frantic efforts from people outside to smash windows and give them some means of escaping, it must have become clear to Abu Talhah and Umm Talhah that there was no way for them to get out. When they realised that they were about to die, it seems that they began to pray the zuhr prayer, surrounded by the flames which they knew would kill them. In this manner did they meet the Angel of Death. When Abu Talhah's body was taken from the bus, his hands were still on his chest. They were in the same position when he was buried. Abu and Umm Talhah rahimahumAllaah passed away during the best days, doing the best of actions and they were buried in the best place on earth - their janaazah was in the haram with 2 million worshippers, and they were buried nearby. Truly Allaah is al-Kareem, al-Qahhaar (the Generous and Bountiful, the Overwhelming Subduer Who is never overcome). And no person can ever die except by Allaah's Leave and at an appointed term. And whoever desires a reward in (this) world, We shall give him of it; and whoever desires a reward in the Hereafter, We shall give him thereof. And We shall reward the grateful. [Soorah Aal-i-‘Imraan 3:145] May Allaah raise their rank in Paradise and make them from the siddeeqeen and shuhadaa. May Allaah preserve and protect their dear children, and may He grant them every good in this life and the next. And may Allaah preserve the pure manhaj of these two people even after they have both died - their attachment to precision in translation, their verification of reports, their love of the isnaad (chain of narration), their dislike of taqleed (following statements without evidence), their love of al-qawl-ur-raajih (looking for the most correct position according to the evidences, in any area of differing), their truly connecting people to the Shuyookh, and their sincere love of our Messenger's sunnah sAllaahu'alaihiwasallam.
